Court Firms Database from SCAO
Dear MECRA Members: As you may all ready be aware, the Michigan Court Reporting & Recording Board of Review intends to institute a requirement that all court reporting firms check in with the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO)and renew their contact information on a yearly basis. They will also be required to fill out an online questionnaire designed to ensure they are in compliance with current laws that regulate how they do business in the state of Michigan. Currently, our database contains what I am certain is a lot of outdated information. In the past, firms were only required to register with the SCAO once. Many of those firms that registered have never been in contact with us again. They may have moved, changed phone numbers, changed owners, etc. The only way we would know is if they voluntarily contacted the SCAO to ask that we update their file. My guess is that most have never given it a second thought. Judge Talbot is seeking your assistance in this project. We will soon be sending out a mailing to all registered firms to notify them of the new reporting requirements. He has asked me to send you the attached list of currently registered court reporting firms. Please distribute this list to your membership and ask them to assist us by letting us know if they are aware of any address changes for a listed firm, if a listed firm is no longer in business, or if they are aware of an existing firm that does not appear on our list. This is a pretty large undertaking and our desire is to reach as many firms as possible with our initial mailing. We are also sensitive to the fact that our budget has seen better days and wish to make sure our initial mailing has as few returned letters as possible.
